George Woods

December 10, 1917 — June 18, 2016

George Woods, age 98, of Atwater, died on Saturday, June 18, at Sunnyview Assisted Living in Atwater.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home in Atwater. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Atwater. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

George Alvin Woods was born December 10, 1917, on a farm near Wagner, South Dakota, the son of Charles and Mary (Millar) Woods. He grew up and received his education in South Dakota. On October 15, 1940, he married Lola Taylor and they made their home on a farm south of Highmore, South Dakota. In 1959, they moved to the Lake Lillian area, where they lived and farmed for 36 years. In 1979, they purchased a home in Spearfish, South Dakota, where they lived during the winter months. Following Lola's death in 1995, George moved to Sunrise Village in Willmar. He had been a resident of Sunnyview Assisted Living in Atwater since 2013.

He is survived by his five children, Carolyn Stahnke of Atwater, Charles (and Jane) Woods of DeGraff, Verna Lynn Lundgren of Big Lake, James (and Bev) Woods of Atwater, and Cecil (and Yvonne) Woods of Willmar; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lola in 1995; and three sons-in-law, Harlan Stahnke, Allen Lemonds, and Donald Lundgren.
