Gerald Virgil Brandjord was born on August 23, 1926 on the family farm near Franklin, Minnesota, the son of Oliver and Clara (Larson) Brandjord. He grew up in that area, was baptized and confirmed at the Hauge Lutheran Church in rural Fairfax, Minnesota. Gerald's grandfather helped establish this church. He attended country school, District 69, north of Franklin. On February 15, 1949, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bird Island, he was married to Shirley Grace Dooner and they made their home on the Brandjord family farm until March of 1952. They moved to a farm seven miles south of Olivia and farmed there until they purchased a farm in 1968 near Spicer. Bud farmed there until his retirement in 1988, but he continued to raise, train and sell Arabian Horses and also had Bud's Auto Sales on the farm. Bud enjoyed life and loved his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, ice fishing, horse trail riding, hunting, dancing, playing cards and going on the Camp Courage Trail Rides. Bud was a past member and president of the Atwater Saddle Club, the Amigo Saddle Club in Renville and was an active member at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer, serving as usher and on the church council.
