Gerald H. Rambow, age 85, of Willmar, died Friday morning, January 28, at the Rice Care Center in Willmar following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 1, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Monday, January 31, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Gerald Harlan Rambow was born on November 21, 1925, on the family farm near Raymond, Minnesota, the son of Charles and Bertha (Rusten) Rambow. He grew up in the Raymond community, was baptized and confirmed at the Raymond United Methodist Church, attended grade school in Priam and graduated from Willmar High School in 1943. Gerald became employed as a farm laborer for Roy Jensen. He served stateside in the U.S. Army Aircorps from 1945-1946. On April 19, 1946, Gerald was united in marriage to Donna Dee Wegner. They made their home in Raymond where he was employed at Wegner's Market and later known as Rambow's Market. Gerald was active with the Raymond Fire Department, served as a relief rural mail carrier and a school bus driver in Raymond and Willmar. In 1972, they moved to Diamond Lake and operated the County Park #3 campground for over 19 years. In 1992, they moved to Willmar and in 2004 moved to West View Village. Since 2009, Gerald has resided at the Rice Care Center.
Gerald enjoyed camping, woodworking and pheasant hunting.Gerald also had a fond love of dogs. He was an avid baseball fan, played fast-pitch softball, umpired ball games, coached little league baseball and was a gun safety instructor. His favorite place was in the stands of a game, any game! If a family member was on the team, all the better as Gerald was a fana�"children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, he cheered for them all.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Dee of Willmar; two sons, Lyn (and Marjorie) Rambow of Willmar and Lyle (and Londa) Rambow of Morris; three daughters, Suzzanne (and Clayton) Rye of Hanlonton, Iowa, Ronna (and Dennis) Flesner of Little Falls and Melissa (and Steve) Bergeson of Spicer; 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Glen (and Signe) Rambow of Raymond, Floyd (and Mary) Rambow of Willmar and Allan (and Carol) Rambow of Kandiyohi and three sisters, Marian (and Earl) Larson of Willmar, Mavis Hultgren of Raymond and Judy (and Rollie) Boll of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in- law, Donald Hultgren and sister-in-law, Lillian (Nolan) Rambow.
