Geraldine C. "Gerry" Taylor, age 97, of Willmar, died Tuesday morning, August 7, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 10, at the United Methodist Church in Willmar. Interment will be in the Echo City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Willmar United Methodist Church or Rice Hospice. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Geraldine was born December 4, 1914, in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of Gus William and Bertha Adeline (Thomas) Posthumus. Her family moved often until settling in Norwood, Minnesota. They later moved to Minneapolis, where Gerry graduated from high school in 1933. She then attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a degree in social work. Following college, she worked for a florist in Minneapolis. On September 10, 1938, she married Dr. Elwyn "Ray" Hudec and they settled in Echo, Minnesota, where they raised their children: Lois and Jim. Gerry lived in Echo until her husband's death in 1966. She then moved to Olivia and worked as a social worker for Renville County. On October 21, 1967, Gerry married G. Eugene Taylor and they later moved to Willmar.
Gerry volunteered for many years in the church and communities she lived in. She was active with Does, Eastern Star and Kiwanis. Gerry loved traveling and telling stories of her travels. She visited every state in the United States, every country in Europe, and every inhabited continent in the world including much of Africa, Japan and India. She also enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter: Lois (and Alan) Ahrenholz of Clara City; four grandchildren: Aaron (and Shannon) Ahrenholz of Clara City, Jesse (and Candi) Hudec of Sartell, Jay (and Diane) Ahrenholz of Anchorage, AK, and Troy (and Summer) Ahrenholz of Renville; nine great-grandchildren; a brother: Ed (and Linda) Post of Minnetonka; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands: Dr. Ray Hudec in 1966 and Eugene Taylor in 1991; and her son: Jim Hudec in 2006.
