Gladys E. Narragon, age 87, of Atwater, died Thursday evening, October 23, at Sunnyview Assisted Living in Atwater.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater with Rev. Daniel Belgum-Blad officiating. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Atwater at a later date. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Atwater Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Gladys Eleanor Narragon was born June 16, 1921, in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the daughter of Christ and Emma (Swanson) Mattson. She grew up in the rural Atwater community and graduated from Atwater High School in 1939. In 1939, she married Lorin J. Narragon and they made their home in the Atwater area. Gladys worked as a meat wrapper for the Atwater Locker and Carlson Meats in Grove City and also as a cook at the Big A Restaurant. She was active with Book Club, the Atwater Alumni and often volunteered helping the elderly in the Atwater community. She also collected clothes for missions. She enjoyed flowers, puzzles, reading and embroidery.
She is survived by three sons, Vern Narragon of Atwater, Jerome Narragon of Bloomington, and Kenneth Narragon of Atwater; a daughter, Audrey (and LeRoy) Hoppke of Cascade, Wisconsin; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Harold Windsor of Willmar; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lorin in 1994; a daughter, Judith Narragon; a grandson, Tracy Narragon; a brother, Walter Mattson; and a sister, Edith Windsor.
