Glen L. Johnson, 86, of Willmar, died Thursday morning, April 4, at Bethesda PleasantView Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, at the First Presbyterian Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Military Honors will be provided by Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Glen was born July 1, 1926, near Dallas, South Dakota, the son of Knute and Martha (Holme) Johnson. He was raised on a cattle ranch near Gregory, South Dakota and graduated from Gregory High School in 1945. He attended South Dakota State University, graduating with a master's degree in agricultural engineering in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Germany. In 1953, he married Mari Briggs at the Congregational Church in Robbinsdale. They made their home in Mankato. Glen worked as a district manager for John Deere and later Massey Ferguson. He worked in the Twin Cities, Mankato and Morris, before being transferred to Willmar in 1964. He retired from Massey Ferguson in 1985, and drove for the railroad for a number of years. Glen was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed baseball, golfing and playing cards and games, especially bridge.
He is survived by his wife, Mari Johnson of Willmar; three sons, Douglas (and Cheryl) Johnson of Robbinsdale, Jeffrey Johnson of Becker and Michael (and Ruth) Johnson of Becker; six grandchildren, Patrick (and Patty) Johnson, Craig (and Karey) Johnson, Eliza Johnson, Zachary Johnson, Alexandra Johnson and Abigail Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Daniel; a sister Ruth Yentes of Omaha, NE; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
