Glenn "Pee Wee" Erickson, age 84, of Willmar, died Friday, October 22, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, October 27th at First Covenant Church in Willmar. The interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors by the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar. Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. Tuesday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and at the church one hour prior to the services.
Glenn "Pee Wee" LuVerne Erickson was born on February 7, 1926, near Priam, Minnesota, the son of Edward and Charlotte "Lottie" J. (Camp) Erickson. He grew up in the Spicer area and received his education in the Willmar schools. In 1943, at the age of 17, he joined the Navy and served on the U.S.S. Lang and was a part of the South Pacific Theater. In 1946, he was discharged and he return to Willmar and worked at Quinn Brothers Implement Company. On December 31, 1949, Glenn was married to Ardis Jevonne Hanson and they made their home in Willmar. Glenn worked as a brakeman for the Great Northern Railroad and later as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement in 1989. After his retirement, Glenn worked part time for Swenson Motor Company transferring vehicles from place to place. Glenn and Ardis attended First Covenant Church and he was a member of the Willmar V.F.W. and American Legion Posts and a member of the Retired Railroaders. He loved being with family and friends, and had a special love for children and his pets. Glenn enjoyed flying and had a pilot's license. He enjoyed animals, traveling, gardening, hunting, fishing, cooking, baking, photography and was great at debating on any subject.
He is survived by his wife, Ardis of Willmar; a son, Michael Erickson of Willmar; and two daughters, Laurie (and Donald) Sherwood of Willmar and Jan Erickson of Sioux City, Iowa. Also surviving are four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (and Lyla) Salonek of Willmar; and two sisters, Dorothy Grell of North Branch and Darlene Ostrander of Sartell, besides other relatives and friends. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kristen Renae Erickson in 1965; and a brother, Melvin "Stubby" Erickson.
