Gordon W. Carlson passed away on March 1, 2009 after a battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am Friday, April 3rd at the Evangelical Covenant Church in New London. The internment will be in the Spicer City Cemetery at a later date.
He was born March 29, 1935 on a farm in New London Township to Walter E. and Mabel C. (Fossum) Carlson. He attended country school in Harrison Township for 8 years and graduated from Atwater High School in 1953. He married Joyce Buer on June 14, 1957 in Atwater. They lived on the family farm in Harrison Township. He actively farmed all his life, raising cattle, hogs and growing crops. He always enjoyed sports and the outdoors.
He was confirmed and baptized as a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in New London and was active in many church activities including the Church Board, Mission Board and Sunday school.
He was also involved in 4H, NFO, Farmers Union and served on the Atwater School Board for 9 years.
For 17 years Gordon and Joyce spent the winter months involved in mission outreach work with Youth With A Mission (YWAM).
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce; 5 sons; Layne of Minneapolis, Todd (& Becky) of New London; Dean (& Mary) of Atwater; Joel of Kandiyohi; and Eric (& Karla) of Cottage Grove; 5 grandchildren and his sister Marlys (& Wayne) Orred of Spicer, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
