Grace Evelyn Peterson was born on the family farm near Letcher, SD the daughter of Mamie A. (Bartikowsky) and A. Robert Enfield. When she was 5 years old they moved to Irving Township north of Atwater, MN and later to a farm south of Kandiyohi, MN, where she completed her education and lived on the family farm. On August 21, 1945, she was united in marriage to Clarence M. Peterson at Harrison Presbyterian Church in rural Spicer. In 1948, they moved onto the present day family farm where they raised their sons and continued to farm together for the next 60 years. After Clarence's death in 2007, Grace continued to live on the farm until 2013 when she moved to independent living in Litchfield, MN.
Grace loved being on the farm, being involved and helping out whenever need. She had the best gardens and flowerbeds, loved doing her own lawn and yard work. Her front door was always open and visitors welcome, an extra plate could always be added to the table for unexpected visitors, there was always enough food to share with fellowship to follow. There was fresh bread and cookies on the counter ready (all the kids would rush in and sometimes fight over the bread and treats fresh out of the oven) but never lasted very long to her dismay. Graces greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, there was always a hug ready, time to spend and concern that they were doing okay and slipping them money without grandpa knowing. She also loved to travel, going to Hawaii, Sweden, and around the US with family and friends creating many memories. When the boys were young Grace taught Sunday school for many years and stayed involved in her faith in the church and God, even in the most difficult times of her life her faith and trust in God never wavered. In the later years she really enjoyed the visits from Ernie, Pastors Dan and Christa and others from the congregation. Grace went to her Lord on Sat the 25 at 7 pm, her favorite numbers.
Grace is survived by two sons, Ronald (and Rosie) Peterson of Atwater, Scott (and Karen) Peterson of Atwater and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Ray (and Larry Adams) Dutchak of Grove City. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren: Shannon (and Kevin) Bodeker, Reese (and Michelle) Peterson, Amber (and Nate) Kahnke, Matthew (and Sarah) Peterson, Jaclyn Peterson and special friend James Orlando, Lindsey Peterson and Michael Peterson, 6 great grandchildren; Randy Peterson and special friend Brianna Zaeska, Nick Peterson, Brooks Bodeker, Jack Kahnke, Charlie Kahnke and Marianna Peterson and 1 great great grandson, Parker Peterson, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence in 2007, 2 sons, Randy and one in infancy, granddaughter, Shonta Peterson, sister Alice M. Kruger and brother Arlan Enfield.
