Harlan Roger Hoffenkamp, age 71, of Atwater, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, January 16, in Los Algodones, Mexico. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be at the Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the Atwater Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Harlan was born on May 20, 1936, in Inwood, Iowa, the son of John and Marcella (Wilke) Hoffenkamp. He grew up and received his education in Nobles County, Minnesota. On March 18, 1956, in Rushmore, Minnesota, Harlan was united in marriage to Audrey Gertz. At that time they moved to rural Atwater to start their life of dairy and crop farming together. Harlan was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater.
Harlan participated in tractor pulls at the county fairs as well as pickup pulls with local friends. Along with the many other trips; including fishing, hunting, camping and vacation with family and friends, his love of Harley Davidson motorcycles was apparent for anyone who knew him, the many annual cycle trips and toy runs were part of who he was. If you were fortunate to have asked him about any of his grandchildren or great grandchildren, you cloud watch the smile spread across his face. He will be missed!
Harlan is survived by his wife, Audrey of Atwater; five children, David (and Cheryl) Hoffenkamp of Atwater, Connie (and Bill) Hemingson of Paynesville, Ricky Hoffenkamp of Atwater, Daniel (and Amy) Hoffenkamp of Hawick and Michelle Hoffenkamp (and Randy Weiss) of Eden Valley; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers LeRoy (and Nancy) Hoffenkamp of Clearwater and Rodney (and Eve) Hoffenkamp of Beaver Creek; three sisters Darlene (and Rick) Dodds of Texas, Dianna Scherff of Worthington and Kris (and Dave) Ripperda of Hills, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold.
