Harlan W. Peterson, age 94, of Spicer, died Friday morning, Oct. 7, at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Harrison Community Presbyterian Church in Spicer. Interment will be at Oakside Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Harrison Community Presbyterian Church are preferred. Harlan Wesley Peterson was born on January 21, 1922, in Atwater, Minnesota, the son of Charles and Nora (Hull) Peterson. He grew up and received his education in Atwater and was baptized and confirmed at Harrison Community Presbyterian Church. At the age of 17, Harlan received his auctioneering license and had his first auction by the age of 18. He was also self-employed as an auctioneer with Peterson Auctioneering. On April 18, 1943, Harlan was united in marriage to Erna Hildred Manson. They lived and farmed East of Spicer for 15 years. In 1956, he established the Northwood Beach Resort on Green Lake, which he owned and operated for over 20 years, retiring in 1979. Harlan also worked for several years at Plywood Minnesota and as a carpenter. Harlan was a faithful member of Harrison Community Presbyterian Church and served on the "car parking committee". His hobbies included traveling and camping in the R/V, and hunting and fishing. He also cherished time together with his family and friends.
He is survived by his three children, Carol Keen of Black River Falls, WI., Roger Peterson of Alexandria and James (and Sharon) Peterson of Iona; ten grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Erna in 2007; daughter-in law, Marguerite and Donna; son-in-law, Tom; four brothers, Vernon, Jewell, Sheldon and Carlton and two sisters, Hazel and Ruth.
