Harold D. Friehl, age 74, of Atwater, died Wednesday evening, February 22, at Rice Memorial Hospital from complications from a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M.. on Saturday, February 25, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, February 24, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Harold Duane Friehl was born on March 20, 1937, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Elmer and Lydia (Hillstrom) Friehl. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1955 and then served in the MN National Guard for two years. In 1957, Harold began employment with Chappell Central in the sheet metal division, retiring in 2000. In May of 1995, Harold was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Grund and they made their home in the Atwater community.
Harold is best remembered for his sense of humor. He was an avid race fan of NASCAR. Harold enjoyed collecting tractors, trains and model cars. He also had a fond love of animals, especially cats and enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Atwater; his two sons, David (and Peggy) Friehl of North Ogden, UT. and Duane (and Shanna) Friehl of New London; six step-children, Troy (and Michele) Grund of Northfield, Rick Grund of Renville, Scott (and Madrene) Grund of Grand Forks, ND., Kathy Grund of Willmar, Cindy Kragenbring of Minneapolis and Perry (and Tonda) Grund of Northfield; twenty grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Arnold (and Ardell) Friehl of Willmar and one sister, Evelyn Krueger of Willmar, besides several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Harold "Butch" and one brother, Roy.
