Harold W. Lovander, age 88, of Willmar, died Thursday evening, April 24, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church in Willmar with Rev. Steven L. Meier officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 and Finstad-Week V.F.W. Post 1639, both of Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Harold William Lovander was born April 14, 1920, at Eagle Lake, near Willmar, the son of William and Martha (Berg) Lovander. He grew up on Eagle Lake and attended country school. He helped on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Army in September 1942. He served in both the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II. He was discharged in February 1946 having attained the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his discharge, he worked in heavy construction for Roth Construction of St. Paul and later for Duininck Construction. In 1949, he began farming in the Willmar area and farmed until his retirement in 1996. Harold was a member of Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 and Finstad -Week V.F.W. Post 1639. He was also an active member of Eagle Lake Lutheran Church and served on several committees at the church. He also was a past member of the Bethesda Homes board.
He is survived by a brother, Kenneth Lovander of Willmar; a sister-in-law, Joyce Lovander of Willmar; his nieces and nephews, Ruth (and Dick) Foley, Douglas (and Susan) Lovander, Marilyn Lovander, Lois (and Kevin) Fladeboe; and several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Lovander; a sister, Ellen Seitzer; a brother-in-law, Merrill Seitzer; and a sister-in-law, Alpha Lovander.
