Harold K. Windsor, age 90, of Willmar and formerly of Atwater, died Thursday morning, Dec. 23, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 30, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be at Union Cemetery with Military honors provided by the Willmar American Legion Post. Visitation will be from 4-6 P.M. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Peterson Brothers - Atwater Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harold Kenneth Windsor was born on May 3, 1920, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Rev. Carl and Lydia (Longhofer) Windsor. He grew up and received his education in Ft. Scott, Kansas and Dawson, Iowa. Harold attended college at York College in York, Nebraska and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Physics in 1942. From 1942 to 1945, Harold served as a Medic in the U.S. Army with the 8th Infantry Regiment 4th Ivy Division in Europe. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, European Theater Ribbon with Two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart award. On November 10, 1945, Harold was united in marriage to Edith A.M. Mattson. They lived for a brief time in Iowa City where Harold continued his education in medicine at the University of Iowa. In 1947, they moved to Atwater. He was a Mail Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in the Atwater community for over 33 years, retiring in 1980. Edith died in 2003 and in October of 2007, Harold entered Rice Care Center. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Atwater and Willmar American Legion Posts and the Willmar Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Harold was an Eagle Scout and a past Boy Scout Leader in Atwater. He enjoyed traveling, automobiles and spending time at his cabin on Lake Koronis.
He is survived by six children, Theresa (and James) Holm of Plymouth, James (and Diane) Windsor De Forest, WI., Lili (Richard) Maier of Delano, Mary Jordan of Winona, Anne Windsor of Spicer and Janelle (and John) Hofgesang of Clifton Park, NY.; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Keith and three sisters, Frances, Dorothy and Margie.
