Harriet Altman

Harriet M. Altman, age 93, of Willmar, passed away Monday afternoon, Dec. 21, at Carris Health Rice Care Center.

A public celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Willmar.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or the Willmar Salvation Army are preferred.  Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.  www.petersonbrothers.com

Harriet Mabel (Terhark) Altman was born on December 25, 1926, in Sibley, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Sarah (DeGroot) Terhark.  She was baptized as an infant in a Dutch Reformed Church in Sibley, Iowa.  She grew up and received her education in Ruthton, MN.  In 1949, she graduated from Northwest Medical School and began working as a lab technician in Madison, SD.  From 1953 to 1968, Harriet was employed at the Lufkin Medical Lab.  On December 14, 1968, at the Aldrich Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis, Harriet was united in marriage to Louis T. Altman.  They made their home in Willmar and from 1968 to 1970, she worked at the Lakeland Medical Center in Willmar.  Harriet was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, volunteering as a Sunday School teacher, Elder, Deacon and active in numerous women's organizations.  Harriet was also a volunteer for mission trips to Sitka, Alaska, Willmar Area Food Shelf, Rice Hospital, Bethesda Nursing Home and the Willmar Senior Center.

She is survived by one brother, Henry (and Lavina) Terhark of Minneapolis and numerous nieces and nephews, besides other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis “Bud” in 2017; one sister, Ann (and Chester) Groeneweg; three brothers, Bernard (and Charlotte) Terhark, Stewart (and Millie) Terhark and Joe  (and Gloria) Terhark.
