Harvey Roy Caldwell, age 88, of Willmar, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 27, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday October 1, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Underdahl-Pierce officiating. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harvey was born on September 16, 1920, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Irving and Majorie (Lindstrand) Caldwell. He grew up in the Danube community and graduated from Danube High School in 1938. From 1941 to 1945, Harvey served in the U.S. Army with the 7th Division Infantry in the Pacific. On September 9, 1946, in Bird Island, Minnesota, he was married to Carmen Mae Beck. They lived in Danube and in 1955, moved to Willmar where Harvey worked for over 33 years as an insurance agent for State Farm Insurance. He was an active member of his church, serving as a trustee, Sunday School teacher and usher. He was a past commander of the Willmar American Legion Post, past president and past club champion at the Willmar Golf Club. Harvey enjoyed being with his family and friends and volunteered in various community service organizations. He was also an avid sports fan and golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen of Willmar; three children, Susan (and Ron) Becker of Oakland, CA., Dale (and Linda) Caldwell of Eden Prairie and Mary Jo Caldwell (and Dan Raden) of Burnsville; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Sharlene (and Ron) Sadler of Payson, AZ., besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Avon and one brother, Lowell.
