Hazel Allen

Hazel J. Allen, age 96, of Spicer, passed away Wednesday evening, May 20, at Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar.    Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.  Visitation will follow the graveside service at the home of Sharon Cain.  Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.  www.petersonbrothers.com

Hazel Julia Allen was born on October 5, 1923, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of James and Ella (Leedahl) Christenson. She grew up in Willmar, was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church and graduated from Willmar High School in 1940.  On October 17, 1940, Hazel was united in marriage to Alvin Lyle Allen.  They made their home in Willmar and owned and operated the Little Norway Café along East Highway 12 in Willmar.  She was later employed at JC Penny's, Nelsen Laundry and Minnesota Country.  Hazel was a life member of Calvary Lutheran Church and member of the Red Hat Society in Spicer.  She enjoyed shopping with her friends, baking breads, cookies and cinnamon rolls and reading romance novels.

She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Cain of Willmar, Charlotte (and Cortlan) Christianson of Faribault and Linda (and Vern) Tvrdik of Alexandria; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; twelve great great grandchildren and one great great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in 1995; one son-in-law, Donald Cain; and seven siblings, Pearl Violet, Gladys, Maynard, Shorty, Bud and Roy.
