Hazel Hegreberg, 98, of Spicer, died Tuesday morning, April 24, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Hazel was born January 24, 1914, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Carl and Eliza (Bergeson) Olson. She grew up on her family's resort on Eagle Lake and attended country school. On March 25, 1933, she married Arthur Johnson and they lived and farmed in rural New London-Spicer. Hazel enjoyed raising sheep on the farm and also worked at Molenaar Plastics and did housecleaning. Arthur passed away in 1995 and Hazel later married Clarence Hegreberg on September 18, 1999. Clarence passed away in 2006.
Hazel was an active member of Eagle Lake Lutheran Church. She enjoyed braiding rugs, crocheting, quilting, gardening and baking. Her family will remember her for "being tough as nails, but with a gentle soul."
She is survived by two sons: Allan Johnson and Ken (and Kayleen) Johnson of New London; two daughters: Sherry Schoumaker of Spencer, IA and Myrna (and Larry) Heck of Sioux Falls, SD; twelve grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands: Arthur Johnson in 1995 and Clarence Hegreberg in 2006; a son: Harlan Johnson; a daughter: Ione Railson; four grandsons: David Korsmo, Scott Johnson, Terry Dailey and one in infancy; a brother: Elmer Olson; and a sister: Stella Hegreberg.
