Helen Kinzler

Helen Florence Kinzler, 76, of Willmar, died Monday, June 18, following a brief battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Interment will be at Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery in Gackle, ND at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter.

Helen was born June 15, 1936, in Fredonia, North Dakota, the daughter of Charles and Esther (Dormanen) Holmstrom. Her father passed away prior to her birth and she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Oscar Karvonen, on the family farm near Fredonia. On April 8, 1957, she married Marvin Kinzler in Jamestown, ND. They lived in Gackle and other communities in North Dakota before moving to Fairfax, MN in 1976, where they raised their family. They moved to Willmar, MN in 1997. Helen worked as a nurses aid at hospitals in Gackle and LaMoure, ND and at the nursing home in Fairfax. She later worked at Island View in Willmar and volunteered at Bethesda Homes.

Helen was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. She enjoyed cooking, baking and reading cookbooks in search of new recipes. She also enjoyed latch-hook, embroidery and mowing the yard on the farm. She loved to attend her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. She also loved babies and her dog, "Puppy".

She is survived by her husband: Marvin of Willmar; nine children: Sheryl (and Steven) Frank of Bird Island, Stuart (and Cary) Kinzler of Willow, AK, Jeff (and Karla) Kinzler of Atwater, Penny (and Kevin) Hemish of Willmar, Michael (and Peggy) Kinzler of Glencoe, Timothy (and Kirsten) Kinzler of Hutchinson, Kimberley (and Mark) Gerardy of Fairfax, Melanie (and Joel) Newcomb of Hutchinson, and Tamara Kinzler (and fiance, Paul Hocum) of Springfield; 27 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Wesley (and Judy) Karvonen and Marvin Karvonen; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather; one brother; one sister; and two sons in infancy: Timothy Ray and David.
