Henry C. Ruter, age 89, of Pennock, died Monday evening, March 12, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar with Fr. Joseph Steinbeisser officiating. Interment will be in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Cemetery near Renville. Military honors will be provided by the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar, Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the St. Mary's Foundation or Rice Hospice.
Henry Claus Ruter was born March 22,1917, in Holland Township, the son of Claus and Tina (Baumann) Ruter. He grew up in Holland Township and attended the District 111 school. On October 7, 1941, he married Jeanette Lundgren at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar and they made their home in Penncok. He entered the U.S. Army on September 17, 1942 and served at Camp White in Oregon during World War II, before receiving a medical discharge in March 1943. Henry owned and operated a saw mill in Pennock and later worked for Kandiyohi County. He was a member of American Legion Post 167 in Willmar and the Civil Air Patrol.
Henry was a beloved husband and father. He looked forward to Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers with his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. . He had a love for airplanes and anything mechanical and loved to tinker on tractors or in his garage. He also loved old time music and playing his mouth organ and accordion.
He is survived by his children, Lavonne Royal of Starksboro, Vermont, Laverne Ruter of Pennock, Yvonne (and Harlan) Grangroth of Waverly, Devonne (and David) Wright of Sealy, Texas, Vern (and Brenda) Ruter of Princeton, Elvern (and Barbara) Ruter of Raymond, Henry V. Ruter of Pennock and Brian (and Joann) Barton of Raymond; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Claus Ruter of New Prague; three sisters, Tina (and Todd) Bratsch, Louise (and Aldrich) Aasen and Doris (and Richard) Lyman, all of Willmar; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, (Jeanette in March 2006), three brothers and five sisters.
