Herbert J. Schwanke, age 75, of Willmar, died Friday morning, February 25, at the Willmar Care Center.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Herbert John Schwanke was born November 30, 1935, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Herbert and Mattie (Gerken) Schwanke. He grew up in Willmar, Glenwood and DeGraff and graduated from Murdock High School in 1954. He farmed in Swift County for many years and also did custom farming with his father. He was also employed at Tyler Manufacturing in Benson during the winter months. In the 1990s, he moved to a farm north of Willmar, where he continued to farm. He enjoyed attending auctions and visiting with friends at Little Dukes and Kentucky Fried Chicken.
He is survived by his neighbors, friends, cousins and other relatives. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Fuzz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his special friend, Helen Zimmer in 2009.
