Ida A. Brown, age 85, of Cosmos, formerly of Olivia, died Monday morning, October 24, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, October 28, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. The interment will be in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Olivia. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Thursday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar (www.petersonbrothers.com) and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ida Ann (Collier) Brown was born on November 14, 1925, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Frieda L. (Wolfe) Collier. She grew up in the Glencoe and Bird Island areas and graduated from St. Mary's School in Bird Island in 1943. On July 5, 1944, she married Bernard William Brown in El Paso, Texas and they made their home in Texas while Bernard was in the Army. After his discharge, they returned to Bird Island and Ida worked as a baker at the Pure Oil Truck Stop. In the early 1950s, they moved to Olivia and she worked for Control Data in Redwood Falls for a number of years, then for Trojan Seed Company in Olivia and retired from Suttle Apparatus in Hector in the early 1990s. She was a 68 year continuous member of the Bird Island American Legion Auxiliary. Ida loved being with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, baseball, entertaining, playing games, traveling, cats, dogs, angels and bells. She enjoyed life and those around her. She is survived by four sons: Elmer (and Maria) Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada, Darrell (and Jan) Brown of Eugene, Oregon, Patrick (and Mary) Brown of Minot, North Dakota and David (and Candice) Brown of New Ulm; five daughters: Maxine (and Michael) Schmit of New London, Anna Beecroft of Willmar, Barbara (and George) Lampher of Olivia, Marian (and John) Gartner of Altemonte Springs, Florida, and Bridget (and Perry) Lemke of Willmar. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Bernard in 1970; two sons: Paul in infancy and Bernard Jr.; and one brother: Elmer Collier.
