Inez M. Duenow, 88, of New London, died Sunday, April 3 at Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment will be in the Ft. Ridgley Cemetery near Fairfax. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.
Inez Malinda (Gieseke) Duenow was born May 3, 1922 in Burnsville Township, Brown County, near Springfield, Minnesota to William and Minnie (Spieker) Gieseke. She was baptized on June 18, 1922 in Springfield. Her family later moved to the Raymond area, where she was confirmed on June 21, 1936 and graduated from Raymond High School in 1939.
On October 2, 1940, she married William Duenow of Fairfax, Minnesota, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Raymond. They farmed for 13 years in the Fairfax area before being employed by the State of Minnesota as parks workers for 27 years. They worked at Alexander Ramsey Park in Redwood Falls, Ft. Ridgley State Park near Fairfax and Lake Carlos State Park near Alexandria. They moved to Spicer in 1990 and most recently resided at Glen Oaks in New London.
Inez taught Sunday school for several years and sang in the church choir in Fairfax. She was active in Ladies Aid and Circles in Alexandria and also volunteered at the Knute Nelson Nursing Home in Alexandria. Inez and Bill were also active in the Site Council and serving meals for the Senior Citizens in Spicer. She loved to crochet, sew quilts and make crafts for her family. She and Bill also loved to dance.
She is survived by her husband, William Duenow; three daughters, Ardys (and David) Lais of New London, Diane (and James) Meyer of Blue Earth and Wendy (and Duane) Brownlee of Detroit Lakes; five grandchildren, Daniel (and Mandy) Lais, Sarah (and Christopher) Scribner, Duane Jr. (and Andrea) Brownlee, Kristina (and Barry) Meyers and Denise (and Randy) McReynolds; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Gieseke of Minneapolis; a sister, Lucille Johnson of Willmar; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Clarence Gieseke, Milton Gieseke and Gordon Gieseke; and a sister, Hazel Pfeffer.
