Iola H. E. Skindelien, age 85, of Sunburg, died Saturday afternoon, March 18, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Sunburg Funeral Home in Sunburg. www.petersonbrothers.com

Iola Helen Evangeline Skindelien was born on December 9, 1931, on the family farm in Arctander Township, near Sunburg, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Manda (Engen) Netland. She grew up in the Sunburg community, was baptized and confirmed at East Norway Lake Lutheran Church, graduated from Kerkhoven High School in 1950 and then attended Minneapolis School of Business. On December 22, 1951, Iola was united in marriage to Oscar "Junior" E. Skindelien Jr. and they made their home in the Sunburg area. Iola worked hard as a homemaker. She was a life member of East Norway Lake Lutheran Church. Her hobbies included word search and jigsaw puzzles, playing solitaire, sewing and cooking. She was a faithful watcher of the soap opera, Days of Our Lives and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Iola will be best remembered for her wonderful hospitality and being a devoted wife and mother.

She is survived by eight children, Patricia (and Ron) Molenaar of Raymond, Susan (and Steven) Rierson of Willmar, Jerry (and Cathy) Skindelien of Sunburg, Jeffrey Skindelien of Sunburg, James Skindelien of Sunburg, Jody (and Janel) Skindelien of Willmar, Sara Skindelien (and special friend, Jerome Montgomery) of Nibley, UT., and Jayson (and Danielle) Skindelien of Sunburg; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar in 2013; an infant son, Douglas in 1955; one sister, Blanche Braaten and six brothers, Lloyd, Vernell, Orville, Virgil, Morris and Merle.
