Ione Meloed Grundseth was born on October 3, 1917, in Lake Johanna Township, Pope County, Minnesota to Ingval and Ida (Haugen) Iverson. She was a baptized and confirmed member of the West Lake Johanna Lutheran Church. She attended country school at District #13 and graduated from Brooten High School in 1935. On June 17, 1937, Ione was united in marriage to Orvin Grundseth. To this union were born six children. They lived their entire married life on a farm near Lake Johanna in Pope County. Ione was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Brooten. She loved nature and the outdoors where she planted several flower beds and large vegetable gardens. After her home burned in 2002, she moved to live with her daughter in Willmar, and came to enjoy city life. Failing health limited her mobility, but she was able to ride in the car and see most of the United States. Ione was a kind and thoughtful person who enjoyed being with her family. She always put her loved ones before herself.
She is survived by her six children, Carol Halls of Brooten, Donald Grundseth of Glenwood, Kenneth Grundseth (and Karin Skarpness) of Brooten, Judith (and Errol) Bluhm of Willmar, Arlene Olson of Willmar and James Grundseth of Rapid City, South Dakota; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Richard (and Monica) Iverson of Minneapolis and two sisters, Helen Philipsen of Brooten and Lillian Madsen of Belgrade, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orvin in 1986; three grandchildren, Susan Bluhm-Yule, Jamie Grundseth and Jackie Braun; two brothers, Milo and Leslie Iverson; one son-in-law, Robert Halls; one daughter-in-law, Lorraine Grundseth and two brother-in-law, Herman Philipsen and Robert Madsen.
