WILLMAR, MN.
Irene Wilma Wiese, age 92, of Willmar, died Wednesday morning, August 2, at Infinia Healthcare Center of Willmar. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, August 7, at First Covenant Church with Rev. Paul Peterson and Rev. Wesley Calvin officiating. Interment will be at East Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.
Irene was born on January 2, 1914, in Cherry County, Nebraska, the daughter of James and Ethel (Phipps) McIntosh. She grew up in the Mullen Nebraska area and in 1931, graduated from Hooker County High School and then a year of Normal School for teaching. On May 24, 1934, in Oberlin, Kansas, she was married to William "Bill" Wiese. They lived in Nebraska until 1936, when they moved to a farm near Pine River, Minnesota. In 1944, they moved to a farm near Spicer. Irene's husband, Bill died of a heart attack in 1962. She then attended St. Cloud Beauty College, graduating in 1964 after which she owned and operated her own beauty salon in Glenwood, Spicer and Belgrade. On June 1, 2001, she entered Infinia of Willmar.
Irene grew many large gardens of flowers, fruits and vegetables of which she gave much to her friends and family and selling extra at the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. Over the years, Irene was active with Home Extension, a 4-H club leader, country school activities and her church. She made many quilts, afgans, doilies and lap robes for shut-ins. She was always there for a friend who needed help. Irene enjoyed traveling to see her family each winter and especially going to the McIntosh family reunions in Nebraska.
She is survived by four children, Carol (and Arthur) Erickson of St. Cloud, Wilamine (and Francis) DeGrote of Willmar, Bernard Wiese of Spicer and Beverley (and Bryon) Higgin of Grantsburg, WI.; one daughter-in-law, Edra Wiese of Munds Park, AZ.; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Leaora Mahan of Great Falls, MT., besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; two sons, William Douglas and Garrett; one great great granddaughter, Shelby Johnson and five brothers, Ray, Cliff, Enoch, James and Melvan "Bill".
