Ivan E. Sordahl, age 66, of Willmar, died Tuesday evening, November 23, at his residence in Willmar following an extended illness.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 27, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be 4-7 pm. Friday, November 26, in the Friendship Room of Calvary Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Ivan Edmund Sordahl was born July 25, 1944, in Willmar, the son of Edmund and Marjorie (Hokom) Sordahl. He grew up on several farms in the area and attended various schools, including New London High School. He graduated from Belgrade High School in 1963. Following high school, he went to work as a roofer for Knigge Roofing. On October 1, 1965, he married Marilee Goedert at the Crow River Lutheran parsonage and they made their home in Willmar. In 1967, Ivan began his career as a truck driver. He drove for Willmar Cookie Company, Smith Trucking, Shugel Trucking and Willmar Poultry. He retired in 2004 due to his health.
Ivan was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served as a greeter and usher. He also assisted folding bulletins and enjoyed helping with the Advent Festival. He loved riding motorcycle and was a member of the Wet and Wild Motorcycle Club. He kept a large garden and enjoyed sharing his produce and homemade jam with friends and neighbors, and baking donuts and krumkake. He also enjoyed concerts and gospel music and traveled to Branson several times. Most of all, Ivan loved to work. He enjoyed driving truck and helping area farmers in the fall.
Ivan is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marilee; four children, Michael (and Toni) Sordahl of Roberts, WI, Paula (and Al) Turnquist of New London, Amy (and Trevor) Anderson of Hammond, WI and Kari (and John) Sampson of Big Lake; nine grandchildren, Henry and Robin Sordahl, Shelby and Ryan Turnquist, Bailey and Abby Anderson, and Jack, Tyler and Ellie Sampson; two brothers, LeRoy (and Jean) Sordahl of New London and John (and Cindy) Sordahl of Willmar; three sisters, Betty Cole of Willmar, Mary (and Ed) Keyser of St. Cloud and Ramona Skornica (and special friend, J.R.) of Willmar; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Robin Sordahl in 1966; a nephew, Adam Sordahl; and a niece Reneigh Sordahl.
