J. Mike Larson, age 58, of Willmar, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, March 24, in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 30, at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, March 29, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Mike was born on July 27, 1952, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Joseph E. and Elsie D. (Hanson) Larson. He grew up in the Pennock community, was baptized and confirmed at Mamrelund Lutheran Church and graduated from Willmar High School in 1971. Following high school, Mike began employment at the GTA Elevator. In May of 1980, he was married to Jean M. Cable. They made their home in Willmar and to this marriage two children were born, Timothy and Christina. For the past 35 years, Mike has been employed at the GTA Elevator now known as Land-O-Lakes Harvest States Elevator. Mike was also employed at Shorty's 66 Service Station for many years. He was a lifelong member of Mamrelund Church. Mike was active singing in church and enjoyed the "old church".
Mike was a MN Twins fan and enjoyed farming, especially driving the tractor. He was an avid waterskier that spent many hours on water on George Lake. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling, country music, camping, walking and time spent with his family and friends. He cherished the vacations with Pam traveling on motorcycle throughout the many national parks in Utah, Montana and Wyoming.
He is survived by his special friend and partner, Pam Jones of Willmar; his two children, Timothy Larson (and fiance, Kellie Haats) of Willmar and Christina Larson (and fiance, Jon Lustfield) of Balaton, and two grandchildren, Emmie and Mason. Also surviving is his brother, Vernell (and Candy) Larson of Pennock and family, Heidi and Burt Smith of Pennock and their children, Austin, Avery, Asaiah and Hailie; Hollie and Jason Staebell of Pennock and their children, Sydnie, Ashlie and Alise; and his godchild, Desiree and John Caron of Cottonwood and their children, Cody, Cayden, Joseph and Dylan; one sister-in-law, Gloria Larson of Willmar and family, Bethany and John Levy and their son, Oliver of Omaha, NE., and Kelsie Larson of Omaha, NE, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lowell in 1995.
