Jacob Eugene "Jake" Schorn, 86, of Willmar, formerly of Raymond, died Thursday afternoon, May 29, at the Copperleaf Senior Living Community in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will also continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Family graveside service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Willmar. Memorials are preferred.
Jake was born on December 30, 1927, in St. Clair, Minnesota, the son of Jacob and Kathryn (Thissen) Schorn. He moved with his family to a farm near Raymond as a young boy, growing up on the family farm. Jake was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Raymond for many years, before joining the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. He married Mary Lou Condon on June 12, 1950, in Raymond and together they farmed north of Raymond for many years. After retiring from farming, Jake helped his cousins in Thein Moving Company, moving houses for several years before retiring again at age 62. Jake and Mary Lou left the farm and moved to Willmar in the fall of 1990.
Jake was an avid hunter all his life. In his younger years, Jake was involved in Golden Gloves boxing and enjoyed golfing and bowling in his later years. He also loved playing cards and dancing. He was a member of the Raymond Sportsman's Club, the Knights of Columbus and served on the Raymond School Board.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of Willmar; seven children: Elizabeth "Betty Jo" Schorn of Eagan, Patrick (and Sandy) Schorn of Browerville, Jeanne (and Joe) Marquardt of Lakeville; Daniel (and Annette) Schorn of Stuttgart, Germany, Cindy (and Butch) Ford of Faribault, Sharon (and Mike) Bomstad of Willmar, and Lisa (and Jeff) Thelen of Big Lake; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert (and Gladys) Schorn of Willmar and Phillip Schorn of Park Rapids; and one sister, Regina (and Robert) Schaffer of Florida and Glenwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Anthony "bud", Vincent "Mutz", Gene and Stanley and two sisters, Mary Johnson and Susan Worms.
