James "Jim" D. Engelke, age 71, of Spicer, passed away Saturday morning, January 13, at his residence surrounded by his family.
A social gathering of family and friends will be from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, at the Spicer American Legion Post. Arrangements entrusted to the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. www.petersonbrothers.com
James Dale Engelke was born on November 21, 1952, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Adolph and Eldora (Allan) Engelke. He grew up in Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1972. On February 25, 1972, Jim was married to Joyce Seemann and they made their home in New London and later in Belgrade. At a young age, Jim began a life career in the trucking industry. Besides being self-employed, he worked for Ammerman Trucking, Midwest Truck Transport and Duininck Inc. His hobbies included fishing and working in his shop on various projects.
He is survived by his two children, Jennifer (and Jamie) Doty of Spicer and Jamie (and Trisha) Engelke of New London; five grandchildren, Hannah (and Alexis) Vazquez, Lilly Doty, Logan Doty, Taylor Engelke and Ashton Engelke; and two great grandchildren, Lorenzo and Alden Vazquez. Also surviving is his special friend, Ronnie Brown; two sisters, Rita (and Jim) Murphy of North Pole, Alaska and Beverly Winters of Montevideo; two brothers, Randy (and Wilma) Engelke of Hutchinson and Billy (and Dorothy) Engelke of Zapp, North Dakota, besides many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; two sisters, Agnes Nelson and Sandy Specht; five brothers, David, Eddie, Bruce, Steven and Greg Engelke; and three brothers-in-law, John Winters, Doug Specht and Wayne Nelson.
