James “Jim” Dennis Bergh was born on August 22, 1939, to Llewelyn and Ruth (Meyer) Bergh in Clarkfield, MN. He grew up in Forman, ND along with 10 siblings and many other Bergh/Meyer family members. At 9 years of age, he was afflicted with Polio after a Thanksgiving family gathering, but never let that keep him down. He was capable of anything he set his mind to do. He graduated from High School in 1957 and then attended Wahpeton School of Science, graduating with a degree in Drafting and Detailing. On March 25, 1961, he was united in marriage to the “Love of his life”, Dorothy Ann (Hansen) Bergh in Sioux Falls, SD. In Sioux Falls, he worked at Egger’s Steel until moving from South Dakota to Minneapolis. He then worked for Paper Calmenson & Co. in detailing and estimating departments and worked on projects, such as the IDS tower and old Met Center.

In 1972, they moved to Bruce, SD to begin farming. Due to an injury, he was unable to continue farming, so they moved to Willmar, MN in 1975. In 1976 Jim and Dorothy established Bergh’s Fabricating, Inc., which has expanded and grown for nearly 50 years. Jim and Dorothy worked together to set up and run their business and eventually incorporated their sons into the business, who would then take it over when they retired. When they were semi-retired, they would spend a few weeks each year in AZ during the winter months. Then in 1994, they started spending all winter in AZ (Oct – May) and summers (June-Sept) in MN until Dorothy’s passing in 2020. Jim treasured his faith above all, and his many family members and friends.

He enjoyed golf, music, humor and a good laugh. When he couldn’t get out as much, he loved learning about history, products being made either in the US or in foreign countries and was always thinking and creating his own products when it was deemed necessary. He had a lifelong interest in anything related to construction, agriculture and airplanes.

After Dorothy passed, he needed full-time help due to post-polio syndrome. He had the best in-home caregivers that were incredibly caring and compassionate that he treated like family. He and his family appreciate the care and friendship these caregivers provided over these last four years.

Jim is survived by his six children, Mike (Brenda) Bergh of Spicer, MN, Brenda (Doug) Stockwell of Clearwater, MN, Karen (Rex) Habner of Sequim, WA, Kent (Devi) Bergh of New London, MN, Kelly (Kari) Bergh of Spicer, MN and Lance (Dawn) Bergh of Spicer, MN; twenty-one grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers, K. Dean (Lois) Bergh of Kindred, ND, Llewelyn Jr. (Sharon) Bergh of Phoenix, AZ, Dale (Judy) Bergh of Canton, SD, Ron (Carla) Bergh of Forman, ND and Jon (Glenda) Bergh of Forman, ND.; three sisters, Karolyn Secker of Minneapolis, MN, Sharon Johnson of East Grand Forks, MN, and Barbara (Roger) Kracht of Luverne, MN and one sister-in-law, Naomi Bergh of Everson, WA, along with many other relatives, including in-laws from his marriage to Dorothy and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Hansen) Bergh, one sister, Joanne Krisher, one brother, Allen Bergh, and one brother-in-law, Ken Johnson.
