James "Jim" F. Toth, age 70, of rural Spicer, died Wednesday afternoon, July 11, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar due to a lake accident.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, July 16, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. Instead of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Faith Formation Program at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church or Disabled Amerian Veterans. Friends may call Monday from 9:30 until time of service at the church. Military Honors will be provided by the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. (www.petersonbrothers.com)
James Francis Toth was born on February 14, 1942, in Ironwood, Michigan, the son of Josephine Martha (Gutt) and William Toth. He grew up in that area and graduated with from the Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood. He continued his education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan and received a degree in Business Management. On August 19, 1967, he was married to Judith Ann Kolinski in Detroit, Michigan. Jim served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was very proud of to have served his country. They lived in several areas of the county after his time in the service. He was always about service to others and helped establish the Big Brothers Program in New Ulm. They had 13 children live with them over the years and three children of their own. In their home, there was always room for one more and you never get rid of someone for making a mistake, just move forward. They moved to Redwood Falls, Minnesota, and he worked for Schult Manufactured Homes. Jim became general manager for them and worked there for 24 years before retiring in September of 2001. They moved to their lake home on Florida Lake after Jim's retirement and have lived there since. He was active in his church, serving as a lay minister, a reader, Eucharistic minister and helped with Sunday school.
He enjoyed puttering around, gardening (he was known as the Tomato Man), hunting, cooking Sunday Breakfast for the family and being a fan for the Vikings or Green Bay, depending on who was playing. Jim loved his wife and family and tried to attend as many activities that the family was involved in. He was the rock of the family and a great leader.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of Lake Florida, two sons; Anthony Toth of Spicer and Patrick Toth of Montgomery and one daughter Anastasia "Stacey" Toth of Willmar, six grandchildren Zaida, Gabriel, Abbigayle, Zeth, Kaelyn, and Josie, one brother, William (and Barbara) Toth of Sterling Heights, Michigan and mother-in-law, Eileen Kolinski of Spicer.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Anthony Kolinski.
