Janet Havelyn Hanson was born on May 18th, 1943, in Lebanon, Missouri, the daughter of Hilmar and Evelyn (Smithson) Vegdahl. She graduated from New London High School in 1961, with wonderful friendships that she maintained and cherished through her life. On March 4, 1961 Jan married Kenneth Norman Hanson who she loved for the next 53 years. Together Jan and Ken shared many adventures around central Minnesota, including many memorable and meaningful years in Montevideo. In 1986 they moved back home to New London to be close to family and friends.
Her commitment to recovery and her dedication to her A.A. friends and family revealed the strength of her character and inner spirit. She always enjoyed sharing and educating her love of our Jesus Christ as a parishioner at Trinity, Hope and Peace Lutheran church. Jan was also a wonderful cook, aesthetic decorator, and was gifted in the art of shopping. She always loved the memories of dancing with her husband, socializing with friends, pontoon rides with her family and most importantly worrying about where the ice house was.
Janet Havelyn Vegdahl Hanson is and will always be a devoted wife and mother who left her family a legacy of love, strength and compassion. Her determination left an indelible mark on her four children. The endearing love she had for her grandchildren will last forever.
Jan is survived by her husband Ken of Spicer; four children, Jeff Hanson of Seattle, WA, David Hanson of Spicer, Judd (and Katie) Hanson of Spicer and Kina Melby of St. Cloud; six grandchildren, Ava, Vaughn, Oden and Lenora Hanson and Davis and Wynter Melby; and her mother, Evelyn Vegdahl of New London.
She was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Susan Swenson.
