Jerome K. Weflen, age 81, of Sunburg, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 27, at Rice Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg. Interment will be in the West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, at the Peterson Brothers Sunburg Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. www.petersonbrothers.com
Jerome Kenneth Weflen was born on August 4, 1931, on the family farm in Swift County near Sunburg, Minnesota, the son of Henry G. and Ovidia A. (Lansverk) Weflen. He grew up and received his education in the Sunburg community and was baptized and confirmed at West Norway Lake Lutheran Church. On April 5, 1952, Jerome was united in marriage to Eunice May Westrud and they made their home on his family's homestead. Jerome was self-employed in farming and truck driving his entire life. From 1981 to 1994, he and Eunice owned and operated the Sunburg Cafe. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. Jerome's hobbies included restoring tractors, deer hunting and fishing. He also owned a plane, earned his pilot's license and enjoyed flying.
Jerome was a proud man who loved his family deeply. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his children, grandchildren. great grandchildren and many friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eunice of Sunburg; five children, Dennis (and Beverly) Weflen of Willmar, Loretta (and John) Hubin of Hector, LuAnn (and Gail) Schuette of Watertown, Lori (and Dale) Lyrek of Winsted and Dale Weflen and special friend Cheryl Schindler of Sunburg; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Leslie Ellingson of Sunburg, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Orville, Deloyen, Ernest and one in infancy and two sisters, Adeline Ellingson and one in infancy.
