John Theodore Frederickson, age 91, died January 8th, at Northfield Hospital, Northfield, MN. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday January 13th at Bethesda Lutheran Church in rural Murdock, MN. Interment will be at Sacred Heart cemetery in Murdock. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Bethesda. Friends and family are invited to return to Bethesda Church for lunch following interment. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services, Willmar, MN.
John was born to Anna Nybakke Frederickson and Theodore Frederickson on his parents' farm near Murdock, Minnesota on May 23, 1915. He attended school in the one-room country school in Hayes Township and in Kerkhoven where his family lived a number of years. John also attended the University of Minnesota farm campus. He married Eileen Shields of Benson on February 12, 1944. John and Eileen farmed in the Murdock area for 48 years. They retired to Willmar, MN in 1992 and moved to Northfield, MN in 2004.
John is survived by his wife Eileen; daughter and son-in-law Mary Ann and Walt Kilgo of Dallas, TX; son and daughter-in-law Steven and Donna Frederickson and granddaughter Stephanie of Denver, CO; daughter Marie Frederickson, son-in-law John Schnorr and grandsons Richert (R.J.) and Steven Schnorr of Northfield, MN; daughter Carol and son-in-law Mark Thompson and grandchildren Christopher and Laura of St. Louis Park, MN. Also survived by sister Donna Kelly and brother-in-law Robert Kelly of Grand Rapids, MN, sister-in-law Ruth Frederickson of Benson, MN and many nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruth and Alice, and brothers Rudolph and Donnel.
John served as chairman and member of the Hayes Township board, member of the school board of District 86, board chairman and board member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, board member of Murdock Farmer's Elevator, chairman and member of Murdock-DeGraff Farmers Union, member of Kerkhoven Sportsman's Club, and was an active 4-H parent and leader. John loved farming and loved his land. John and Eileen enjoyed camping and travel and took their family on many trips. They continued their love of travel after their retirement, visiting friends and family throughout the country, touring Mexico and Alaska in their motor home and spending many winters in Arizona.
