John Hustoft

July 8, 1923 — October 5, 2007

John Hustoft, age 84, of Willmar, died Friday afternoon, October 5th, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, October 11th, at Vinje Lutheran Church with Rev. Barbara Johnson officiating. The interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and at the church one hour prior to the services.
John Hustoft was born on July 8, 1923 in Stavanger, Norway, the son of Inga (Gudmondson) and Ole Hustoft. He immigrated to the United States as an infant, with his family and settled in the Willmar area. He grew up here, received his education in the Willmar area schools and graduated from Willmar High School in 1942. On August 7, 1946, John married Muriel C. Freeberg in Willmar and they made their home in the Willmar area. In about 1954, they moved to a farm south east of Willmar, where they raised turkeys and some grain crops. They farmed until the early 1990's when John retired and they moved into Willmar. John was an active member in his church and community, serving as treasurer of the Willmar Township, was a member of the District 819 School Board, member of the board for Production Credit Association and was a past member of the Willmar American Legion and Willmar Kiwanis. He loved being with family and friends and he enjoyed going to their cabin on Green Lake, traveling, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two sons; Dann (and Carol) Hustoft of Albert Lea and David (and Diane) Hustoft of Anoka, one daughter, Mary (and Gil) Obey of St. Paul, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Alf Hustoft of Willmar, two sisters; Emma (and Wyman) Skoglund of Red Wing and Joan (and Wesley) Young of Richmond, Kentucky, and special friend Gerry Taylor of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Muriel in 1992), two grandsons (Michael and Shawn Hustoft) and one brother (Harold Hustoft).
