John "Leo" Kelly, age 75, of Palm Springs, California, formerly of Willmar, died Monday, October 28, in Palm Springs.
A Memorial Mass will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 2, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Interment will be at Immanculate Conception Cemetery in New Richmond, WI at a later date. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the St. Mary's Foundation (stmaryswillmar.org/index.php?page=Foundation) or the Rice Health Foundation ricehealthfoundation.org).
John Leo Kelly was born February 10, 1938, in New Richmond, Wisconsin, the son of William and Rose (Farrell) Kelly. He grew up and graduated from New Richmond High School. Leo was a member of the Army National Guard in Wisconsin and worked as a semi driver for most of his career. Leo later served in the U.S. Army, from March of 1959 to March of 1963, during the Berlin Crisis. On April 20, 1963, he married Verna M. Anderson in St Paul, Minnesota, and they made their home in St. Paul. He was transferred to Willmar in 1973 by Hormel Foods where he worked for 18 years and then in 1976 started working for Red Owl Foods and Willmar Cookie Company until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Church of St. Mary and the Knights of Columbus. Leo was an avid "7 days a week" football/basketball fan and loved traveling, yard work, planting flowers and visiting with anybody -anywhere -anytime.
Leo is survived by his wife: Verna Kelly of Palm Springs, CA; five sons: John (and Rhonda) Kelly of Naperville, IL, Michael Kelly of Manhattan Beach, CA, Mark Kelly of Manhattan Beach, CA, Scott (and Martine) Kelly of Oceanside, CA and Kevin (and Amy) Kelly of Henderson, MN. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren; brother: Bob (and Marge) Kelly of Green Bay, WI; sister: Jane Fredrick of Oconomowoc, WI; and sister-in-law: Carol Kelly of Philadelphia, PA; besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother: Thomas Kelly.
