John S. Munson, age 75, of Atwater, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, July 17, at his residence in Atwater.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 20, at the Church of St. Patrick in Kandiyohi. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Atwater. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, at the Peterson Brothers - Atwater Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
John Stewart Munson was born on March 17, 1937, on the family farm near Watkins, the son of Leslie and Alice (Nystrom) Munson. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1955 and attended barber school. John worked as a barber in Wisconsin and Litchfield. On June 24, 1967, he was united in marriage to Delores M. Jones. They made their home in Atwater and he continued to work as a barber. From 1970 - 1999, John was employed by the Atwater Schools as a custodian. John served as a volunteer on the Atwater Fire Department from 1971 - 1992 and the Atwater Ambulance Squad from 1973 - 1991. John was a faithful and active member of the Church of St. Patrick where he served as an usher.
John enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed coffee time at the bakery and afternoon naps in the 'big blue" chair. Many will miss his quote "It's your turn to come over". Blessed be his memory!
He is survived by his loving wife, Delores of Atwater; three children, Trisha (and Jerry) Huber of Prescott, WI., Brad (and Sandra) Munson of Sauk Rapids and Wendy (and Kurt) Morse of Atwater; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Roger (and Pat) Munson of Watkins, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
