Johnny M. Sundin, age 73, of Willmar, died Sunday morning, March 17, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Johnny Sundin was born October 13, 1939 in Lake Lillian Township, the son of Gustaf and Myrtle (Bakke) Sundin. He grew up and received his education in the Lake Lillian community and was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. Johnny was employed at Sagness Auto for several years and worked on the pit crew of Thurman Sagness's race team. On December 2, 1967, at the parsonage in Lake Lillian, he was married to Carolyn Morgan and they made their home in Lake Lillian. From 1964 to 1971, Johnny worked at Nelson International. In 1973, they moved into Willmar and he owned and operated John's Auto Body in Willmar. Johnny was also the maintenance manager of Carolyn's Beauty Salons.
Johnny was an avid car buff and enjoyed car races and car shows. His enjoyment of body work was shown in his skill. He was also an avid bowler and collector of many items. He enjoyed watching sports, especially his kids, and camping as a family on Big Kandi Lake.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; his four children, Johnny Ray Sundin, Daniel Sundin, Gary Sundin and Mary Sundin, all of Willmar; seven grandchildren, Markus, Sara, Dayton, Amanda, Daeshia, Tyler and Alexis; five great-grandchildren, Selena, Cecelia, Malyk, Matthew and Dixie; two brothers, Bill Sundin of Faribault and Galen (and Peggy) Sundin of Plato; two sisters, Sally (and Clarence) Brown of Faribault and Nancy (and Dale) Olson of Belgrade; a brother-in-law, Bill Cully of Renville; a sister-in-law; Carol Sundin of Lake Lillian; numerous and loved nieces, nephews and cousins; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gustaf Sundin; his mother, Myrtle Nesset; his stepfather, Floyd Nesset; one brother, Gene Sundin; two sisters, Baby Violet and Violet Cully; a sister-in-law, Caroll Sundin; two brothers-in-law, Wayne Hoepner and Norman Johnson; and numerous and loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
