Joyce Clare

Joyce A. Clare, age 81, of Willmar, died Tuesday evening, July 15th, at the Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 22, at the First Presbyterian Church in Willmar with Rev. Richard Underdahl-Peirce officiating. The interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice, 301 SW Becker Ave., Willmar, MN 56201. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Willmar.

Joyce Anne Clare was born on July 14, 1927 in Raymond, Minnesota, the third and youngest child of Jennie (Hesseling) and Garret Vlaar. She spent her early years in the Raymond area and completed her education in Willmar, graduating from Willmar High School in 1945. Joyce worked as a bookkeeper at Perkins Lumber Company for a few years. In 1952, she married William Henry Clare, Jr. and they made their home in Spicer. She was the bookkeeper for the Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer and after her children were older she was a bookkeeper for Hogan's Fabrics and then at Clare Paint and Glass Company that Bill owned and operated. Joyce was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Willmar, a member of the Ladies Circle, served on the Deacon Board and had been on the budget committee. She volunteered at Rice Hospital and at the Senior Center. Joyce and Bill loved being at "The Lake", and over the years, had cabins on Norway Lake and Green Lake. Joyce enjoyed spending time with family and friends and traveling.

She is survived by a son, William H. III (and Denise) Clare of Crystal; two daughters, Susan (and Loren) Fix of Elk River and Judith Clare of Sauk Rapids, and four grandchildren, Cory Fix, Daniel Fix, Madilyn Clare and Matthew Aurelius. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Avis (Mrs. Harold) Vlaar and seven nieces and nephews, besides other relatives and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William H. Clare, Jr. in 1991; a brother, Harold Vlaar and a sister, Edna DeGrote.
