Joyce E. Cronen, age 87, of Kandiyohi, died Thursday evening, Nov. 14, at her residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kandiyohi. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. with Parish Prayers at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kandiyohi and visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service. Joyce Ethelyn Cronen was born on March 5, 1926, in Maynard, Iowa, the daughter of George and Ulva (Davis) Carley. She grew up in Maynard, Iowa and graduated from Maynard High School and then received her teaching certificate in Montevideo, Minnesota. On August 29, 1946, Joyce was united in marriage to Harold "Jack" Cronen at St. Clara's Catholic Church in Clara City. They lived in the Clara City until 1951, when they moved to Kandiyohi and became engaged in farming. Joyce was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was active as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, custodian, ladies aide and other various committees. Joyce enjoyed sewing, gardening and being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her eight children, Jerald (and Coleen) Cronen of Hutchinson, Ronald (and Vanessa) Cronen of Houston, TX., Linda (and Cyril) Kascht of Paynesville, Michael (and Debra) Cronen of Kandiyohi, Robert (and Annette) Cronen of Kandiyohi, Colleen Aasen of Atwater, John (and Nancy) Cronen of Shorewood and Paul (and Cathy) Cronen of Moorhead; thirty-two grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Wilber Carley of Lincoln, NE. and Harlan (and Mary) Carley of Bettendorf, IA.; one sister, Birdeen Kerby of Roseneath, Ontario, Canada; and two sister-in-laws, Alice Cronen of Clara City and Jeanette Cronen of Benson, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 1991; one brother, Walter Carley and one sister Josephine Readeker.
