Kathleen Pirsch

May 8, 1918 — March 14, 2010

Kathleen Ann Pirsch, 91, of Willmar died Sunday morning at Rice Memorial Hospital.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willmar. Visitation will be at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home on Monday from 5 pm to 7 pm. and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Kathleen A. Pirsch was born on May 8, 1918 in Dundas, Minnesota to Frank and Marie Weir and graduated from Faribault High School. She married Leo R. Pirsch of Oliva on March 6, 1943.

Kathleen dedicated her life to bringing joy to the lives of others and was a tireless advocate for persons with intellectual disabilities. She was a Minnesota delegate for the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) in New York and in Washington D.C. She was also President of the Kandi-Meeker ARC and coordinated a free measles vaccine clinic for more than 1000 area children in 1967. She served on the MR Advisory Board until her death.

She owned and operated the Village Shoppe in downtown Willmar and was loved by many for her sense of humor and undying effort to help make others smile. She had sharp wit and could make even a stranger laugh. Throughout her 67 year- marriage she and Leo enjoyed traveling to almost every continent in the world and enjoyed 26 winters golfing and walking the beaches on Maui. Kathleen enjoyed shaking dice at the kitchen table and beating her grandkids at Gin Rummy. She taught her children and grandchildren many lessons including how to laugh more often than cry, speak honestly even when it was hard, and how to choose the right machines at the casino in Morton, MN.

She is survived by her husband, Leo; children, Bob of Willmar, Mike of Thailand, Steve of Prior Lake, John of Madison, WI, Kathy (Earl) Grief of Boise, ID; Ann, (Lawrence Gregulho) and Sue of Maui; eight grandchildren (Chris, James, Desiree, Danny, Moira, Anna, Andrew, Julia); two great grandchildren and very special friends to the family, Bridget Carr-Pirsch and Diane Osteraas.

She will be missed dearly and those who love her wish her eternal peace.

"Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand."
