Kenneth L. Peterson, age 92, of Willmar, died Wednesday, October 14, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, at First Covenant Church in Willmar. Interment will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Military Honors will be provided by Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar. Visitation will be Friday, October 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Kenneth was born February 12, 1917, in Lockport, Illinois, to Carl and Josephine (Haglund) Peterson. His family later moved to Willmar, where he graduated from Willmar High School in 1935. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. On April 7, 1951, he married Delrose Anderson and they made their home in Willmar. Kenneth was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Willmar and retired as the Postmaster in Pennock in 1983. He was then employed part-time as a school bus driver for Willmar Bus Service. He was an active member of First Covenant Church, where he served as Sunday School superintendent and teacher, as an usher, as a member of the Lake Beauty Bible Camp Board and as treasurer for Young at Heart. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Local Retired Postal Workers and served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Kenneth enjoyed reading, fishing, camping, gardening, being a handyman and traveling with Delrose. He also enjoyed supporting community functions and loved lutefisk.
He is survived by his wife: Delrose of Willmar; his children: Becky (and James) Mokler of Tucson, AZ, Julie (and Thomas) Larson of Montgomery, TX, Jim (and Sandra) Peterson of Hurricane, WV, and Bruce Peterson (and special friend, Loretta Manula) of Minneapolis; six grandchildren: Matthew Mokler, Justin Mokler, Linnea Larson, Katarina Larson, Ethan Peterson and Elia Peterson; a brother: Carlton (and Kay) Peterson of Richardson, TX; a sister: Blanche (and Howard) Perron of Big Rapids, MI; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
