Kevin R. Gruenhagen, age 55, of Willmar, died Friday morning, January 15th, at his home.
Memorial services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, January 23rd, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Kevin Ross Gruenhagen was born on January 25, 1954 in Morris, Minnesota, the son of Clarence John and Marie Bernice (Thompson) Gruenhagen. They moved to Willmar in around 1957 and Kevin received his education in the Willmar Schools, graduating from Willmar High School in 1972. He then attended Willmar Vo-Tech and received a degree in Mobile Communications in 1975. He went to work for Nelson Construction and worked as a carpenter with them until 1979. In that year, he went into partnership and formed Barber, Gruenhagen and Peterson Construction. In 1985, Kevin was married to Debra M. Thorson in Willmar. In that same year he went to work at MN/DOT as a Highway Technician and retired in 2008 after 20 years as an Engineering Specialist for MN/DOT in the Metro area. After his retirement he worked for MediVan for about six months. Kevin loved being with family and friends and enjoyed be outdoors, gardening, playing with the kids, fishing and doing carpentry.
He is survived by his wife: Debra Gruenhagen of Willmar; two sons: Matthew (and Lisa Boehne) Gruenhagen of St. Cloud and Benjamin (and Kayla Denny) Gruenhagen of Atwater; two grandchildren: Hayden Gruenhagen and Bailey Gruenhagen; a brother: Wayne (and Linda) Gruenhagen of Nevada, MO; two sisters: Merrily (and Gary) Kaelke of New London and Wendy (and Jim) O'Reilly of Zumbrota; several nieces and nephews; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Louis and Beverly Thorson of Willmar; besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Marie (Thompson) Gruenhagen.
