Laila M. Mohagen, age 99, of Paynesville and formerly of Willmar and Spicer, passed away Wednesday, August 31, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, at the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Interment will be at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, at the West Elbow Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Elbow Lake. Laila Maxine Mohagen was born on April 2, 1923, in Elbow Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Cora (Canestorp) Peterson. She grew up in Elbow Lake, was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1941. On September 15, 1942, Laila was united in marriage to Lorraine E. “Lollie” “Moe” Mohagen. They made their home in Elbow Lake until 1965 when they moved to Willmar. In 1977, they retired and moved to Spicer and in 1997, they moved to Paynesville. Laila was a member of the Paynesville Lutheran Church and was active as a Sunday School teacher, ladies aide and the quilting group. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting, traveling, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, John (and Sharyn) Mohagen of Moorhead, Joel Mohagen of Lake Lillian, Lora (and Douglas) Wanner of Rice and Ellen (and Mark) Sorgatz of Sacred Heart; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, besides other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, “Moe” in 2005; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Jacque; three brothers and two sisters.
