Lary D. Scheltens, age 68, of rural Spicer, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, May 13, at his home on Lake Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18, at the United Methodist Church in Raymond. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Lary Dean Scheltens was born October 2, 1943, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Albertus and Myra (Sachariason) Scheltens. Lary was baptized and confirmed in the United Methodist Church in Raymond and graduated from Raymond High School. He married Lelane Nelson on June 20, 1964, in Willmar. They lived and farmed for 31 years near Raymond before moving to Lake Florida. Lary served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years. When he lived on the farm, Lary was active in men's bowling league at the K.E.C. in Willmar. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and friends and relaxing at the lake.
He is survived by one son: Chad Scheltens of Coventry, CT; his mother: Myra Scheltens of Willmar; two sisters: Gail Scheltens of Willmar and Gwen Gramer of Bingham Farm, MI; besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father: Albertus Scheltens and his wife: Lelane in 2009.
