Laura E. Sjoquist, 91, of Sunburg, died Sunday, December 7, at Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.
The service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13th, at West Lake Lutheran Church in rural Sunburg. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Sunburg Funeral Home.
Laura Evelyn Sjoquist was born on June 29, 1917, in Arctander Township, the daughter of Andrew and Emma (Nygaard) Henjum. She attended District 54 schools through the 8th grade. She married Carl Sjoquist on September 4, 1943. They lived in or around Sunburg her whole life. She worked at the Sunburg Elementary School as a teacher's aide for over 20 years and played piano for the annual Christmas Pageants held at the school. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and playing piano and was a member of the Joyful Messengers singing group. Laura also enjoyed making homemade donuts and baking Norwegian treats. She was a lifetime member of the West Lake Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday school.
She is survived her children: Janyce (and Willie) Flanery of Lodi, California, Charles (and Mary) Sjoquist of Queenstown, Maryland, Owen Sjoquist of Sunburg and LuAnn Amberson of Shakopee; and by her six grandchildren: Angela & Dawn Flanery, both of California, Michael and Kevin Amberson, both of Minnesota, Ellen Amberson of South Korea, and Megan (Gregg) Lanier and one great-grandchild, Dano Lanier, all of Seattle, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents; her sister, Bernice Henjum and her brother, Ernest Henjum.
