Lavern Dubrosky

August 29, 1925 — February 4, 2009

Lavern A. "Smokey" Dubrosky, age 83, of Willmar, died Wednesday evening, February 4, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 7, at Vinje Lutheran Church. The interment will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Military Honors will be provided by the Finstad-Week V.F.W. Post #1639 of Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. on Friday, February 6, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Lavern Anton Dubrosky was born on August 29, 1925 in Highland, Illinois, the son of Anton and Clara (Koehler) Dubrosky. He grew up in Highland, Illinois and graduated from high school in Pocahontas, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during W.W. II and was stationed in the South Pacific. On June 19, 1946, in Minneapolis, Smokey was united in marriage to Betty Ann Voldness. They made their home in Illinois for one year before moving to the Litchfield area in 1947 and to Willmar in 1948. Smokey worked as a brakeman conductor for the Great Northern Railroad for over 39 years, retiring in 1987 from Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church, lifetime member and past commander of the Willmar V.F.W. Post and member of the United Transportation Union. Smokey enjoyed woodworking, gardening, caring for his lawn and various handyman work.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Willmar; one son, Kim Dubrosky of St. Cloud and three daughters, Melody Garding of Watkins, Devone Anderson of Belgrade and Sheryl Krueger of Atwater; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great great grandson. Also surviving is one brother, Don (and Betty) Dubrosky of Indianapolis, Indiana, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Palmer "Butchie" Dubrosky in 1958 and one grandson, Robin Garding.
