Lavern A. Ferguson, age 78, of Willmar, died unexpectedly at his home Sunday afternoon, April 29th.
A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, May 2nd, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Underland-Peirce officiating. The interment will be private at the Oakside Cemetery near Diamond Lake. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Willmar.
Lavern Ardell Ferguson was born on September 3, 1928, in Willmar, the son of Alice (Miller) and George Ferguson. He grew up in the Diamond Lake area and received his education in the Atwater Schools. On June 5, 1948, he was married to Corinne Evelyn Larson at the Green Lake Bible Camp Chapel in Spicer. They made their home in Willmar and Lavern worked for a time with the Kandiyohi County Highway Department. He later worked for the Consolidated Oil of Willmar and St. Cloud. He retired from Consolidated Oil in 1990 and worked part time for Broman Oil Company and West Central Steel until 1993. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Lavern loved being with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and he enjoyed being at the lake and enjoying the sunset with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Corinne, three daughters; Laurie (and Lyndon) Swenson of Raymond, Peggy (and Reggie) Schow of Blomkest and Wendy (and Rod) Pfeifer of Ramsey. Also surviving is one son-in-law, Robert Okland of Willmar, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one brother, Arthur Ferguson of Willmar and one sister, Janet (and Arlie) Bomstad of Plymouth, besides other relatives and friends.
Lavern was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter (Linda Okland in 2004), one granddaughter (Karin Pfeifer in 1987), two brothers (Dale and Carlton Ferguson) and two sisters (Louise Hartman and Adele Harvey).
