Laverne Budach

Laverne Budach, age 92, of Willmar, died Saturday afternoon, March 31, surrounded by his family at his home in Willmar.


Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery in Mankato, Minnesota.


Laverne William Budach was born October 19, 1925, in Mankato, Minnesota to William and Dorthea (Hueper) Budach. He attended country school in rural Minnesota Lake, Minnesota through the 8th grade and then worked with his dad on the family farm. On November 23, 1944, he married Elaine Redman. They lived and farmed for over 48 years in the Lake Crystal area. Laverne also drove school bus during those early years of farming and worked for over 22 years at the Honeymead Soybean Processing Plant in Mankato. In 1995, Laverne and Elaine moved to Willmar to be closer to the cabin they loved on Diamond Lake near Atwater. Laverne worked part-time at Anderson Cleaning Service in Willmar.


Laverne loved collecting Jim Beam Bottles, woodworking, fishing, jigsaw puzzles, going to meat raffles, and spending many summers at the cabin on Diamond Lake. He was also a great handyman.


Laverne is survived by his wife, Elaine; two daughters, Barbara (Fred) Phillips of Austin, MN, and Donna Anderson of Willmar, MN; five grandchildren, Tim (Joanie) Phillips of Waverly, IA, Teresa (Rick) Palmer of Princeton, MN, Tanya Phillips (Nate Johnson) of Austin, MN, Robin (Todd) Schultz of Clearlake, MN, and Bret Anderson of Becker, MN; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene and Wilfred; a sister, Pearl Huettl; and a son-in-law, Steve Anderson.
